Chat with Library

Updated over 8 months ago

The "Chat with Library" feature leverages Generative AI to help you interact with your content libraries using natural language. Ask questions, get summaries, analyze documents, and discover relevant resources quickly and efficiently.

Video Tutorial:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Navigate to Chat: Select "Chat with Library" from the main navigation menu on the left side of the screen.

  2. Submit a Prompt:

    • You will see a main chat interface with a prompt input box at the bottom labelled "Submit your prompt...".

    • Type your question or instruction in natural language. Examples from the video include:

      • "Tell me about the evolution of monasticism"

      • "Explain briefly the theology of Juan Casiano"

      • "Write an outline of the history of Catholicism in Bulgaria"

    • Click the submit button (the arrow icon) to the right of the prompt box.

  3. Review the AI Response:

    • Vulgate AI will search the selected libraries in real-time.

    • An answer will be generated in the chat window.

    • Responses include inline citations (superscript numbers) linked to a "References" section at the bottom, showing the source documents from your library used to generate the answer.

    • Suggested "Follow up" questions may appear below the response to help you explore the topic further.

Attaching Documents for Analysis:

  1. Click Attach: Click the paperclip icon next to the submit button in the prompt input area.

  2. Select Document: Your device's file browser will open. Select the document (e.g., a PDF) you want the AI to analyze. Click "Open" or the equivalent confirm button.

  3. Submit Analysis Prompt: The attached document name will appear above the prompt box. Type a prompt related to the document, such as "Analyze this document and find more resources on the subject."

  4. Submit and Review: Click the submit button. The AI may ask clarifying questions (e.g., whether to search internal or external resources). Select your preference if prompted. The AI will then provide an analysis or find related resources based on the document's content.

Using Chat from Other Views (e.g., Document Viewer):

  1. Open Chat Panel: When viewing a specific document or navigating other sections of Vulgate, click the "Chat" button, usually located in the top-right header area.

  2. Contextual Chat: A chat sidebar will open. You can now ask questions or request actions related to the specific content you are currently viewing. For example, while viewing page 46 of a document, you could ask, "Summarize this section in English."

  3. Interact: The AI will respond within the sidebar, using the context of the page or section you are viewing. You can continue the conversation or ask follow-up questions.

Selecting Specific Libraries:

  1. Click Libraries Button: Before submitting a prompt in either the main "Chat with Library" screen or the chat sidebar, click the "Libraries" button located near the prompt input box.

  2. Choose Libraries: A dropdown list of available content libraries (e.g., "Oriental Institute," "Magisterium AI") will appear. Check the boxes next to the libraries you want the AI to search for generating its response. Deselect any libraries you want to exclude.

  3. Submit Prompt: Type and submit your prompt as usual. The AI will now only draw information from the selected libraries.

Accessing Chat History:

  1. Click History: On the main "Chat with Library" page, click the "History" button located near the top-left, just below the main navigation.

  2. Review Past Chats: A list of your previous chat sessions will be displayed, ordered by time.

  3. Revisit Chats: Click on any item in the history list to reopen that specific chat conversation and review the prompts and responses.

This feature streamlines research by allowing you to directly converse with your digital library content, receive cited answers, analyze specific documents, and get contextual help without leaving your current view.
