Machine translations of documents

Read documents in another language using Vulgate's built-in translation.

May 21, 2026

Vulgate can translate a document into your preferred language right inside the document viewer.

Translate a whole document

  1. Open the document in the Library viewer.
  2. Open the language menu in the document header.
  3. Under Machine translations, pick a target language.
  4. Vulgate translates the document in the background. The first translation can take a minute for long documents; subsequent reads are instant.

Add a second language tab to read side by side; close tabs to view one language only.

Languages

Vulgate's machine translation supports dozens of languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. For high-stakes work, treat the output as a draft that a human translator can refine.

Behind the scenes

Translations are generated by Vulgate's built-in AI translation (powered by a Google Gemini model). See Is my data used to train AI? for the broader data-handling story.
