Choosing libraries in Chat
Pick which Libraries Chat retrieves from for sharper, more deliberate answers.
May 21, 2026
By default, Chat searches every Library you have access to. Narrowing the set of Libraries it retrieves from often improves answer quality when you're working on a specific topic.
Set the Libraries
Above the chat input, click the Libraries dropdown. Tick the Libraries you want Chat to retrieve from for the rest of the conversation, and untick the rest.
The selection applies to future messages. Past responses keep their original citations.
When to narrow vs. when to broaden
Narrow when:
- You're working from a specific Library and want the AI to only cite from that Library.
- You're getting noise from unrelated documents in unrelated subjects.
Stay broad when:
- You're researching across multiple topics.
- You're not sure where the answer might come from.
What happens to documents added after the chat starts
If you upload a new document while a chat is in progress, the new document becomes searchable by future messages — assuming the chat's selected Libraries include the one you uploaded into.
